Update on Headwaters and Sterling College

In mid-March, Headwaters Community Trust presented the Sterling College trustees with a draft offer to acquire the Sterling campus. We took care to present terms that are within Headwaters’ reach, and also respectful of Sterling’s needs as we understand them. Sterling’s response made clear that there is still some distance between us, so we are fully engaged in finding a path forward to achieve the best outcome.

Headwaters’ board is taking concrete steps to fulfill the trust’s organizational development goals.

Working with consultant Evan Carlson, we are halfway through a ten-week sprint to create a comprehensive business plan and key organizational documents.

When completed, this work will position Headwaters to secure project funding and act on development opportunities as they arise. Evan brings to this project over 15 years’ experience in strategic execution, organizational scaling, and founding of successful, complex ventures in the Northeast Kingdom.

Additionally, the board is embarking on organizational development work with the guidance of Mia Moore. We expect this process to further clarify board roles and responsibilities as well as internal decision-making structures. With clear structures in place, we can invite members of the trust to participate in the board’s working groups.

The board appreciates the talents and time that members have offered, and we look forward to inviting our members into the work of fulfilling Headwaters’ mission.
