Seeking Board Members

Members of Headwaters Community Trust will elect HCT’s first board at its first annual Membership Meeting on December 9, 2025.

Headwaters wants to hear from people who care deeply about housing affordability, and who are willing to work as part of a team to implement the community land trust model in response to the needs of our neighbors and our region.

Are you interested in serving? Please follow these three steps to submit a letter of interest:

1. If you are not currently a member of Headwaters Community Trust, click here to access the membership enrollment form. (Membership is required for directors. Nonmembers can work with the board in an advisory capacity.)

2. Read this document (PDF), which outlines Headwaters’ expectations of its directors. For a deeper dive, click here (PDF) to access the Headwaters Community Trust bylaws.

3. By 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 23, email a letter of interest that includes: (1) why you want to serve on the Headwaters board (in 100 words or less), and (2) a description of any current or potential conflicts.

Letters of interest must be submitted by Sunday, November 23 at 12:00 noon. Founding board members will nominate a slate of candidates after reviewing all letters of interest and responding to any questions received from members.

Members will receive an official notice of the Annual Membership Meeting, with the agenda and slate of board nominees, by Tuesday, December 2. The board that is elected by the members at the December 9 Membership Meeting will meet within six weeks to elect officers.

BECOME A MEMBER

Our members will make up the community that guides the trust in fulfilling its charitable purposes: To provide affordable homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income people, to promote community economic vitality, and to make land available for projects and activities that improve the quality of life in our service area.

Members elect the trust's board of directors and vote on trust policies. By serving on committees and work groups, members guide and direct every aspect of the work of the trust, including community relations, property acquisition and development, fundraising, and operations. By simply following our work and sharing it with friends and family, members can help the trust grow.

Every adult who supports our purposes and lives, works, volunteers, or studies within the headwaters region of the Black, Barton, and Lamoille Rivers (comprising the four towns of Albany, Craftsbury, Glover, and Greensboro, and all adjoining communities) is invited to become a member.
