Business + Trees
Business Planning
In mid-April, Headwaters board members spent an afternoon working with entrepreneur and business guide Evan Carlson, who is leading the board through a ten-week sprint to develop Headwaters’ operational blueprint. We were fortunate to be joined by Northern Forest Center president Rob Riley, who continues to generously share his experience and expertise.
Tree Planting for World Community Land Trust Day
Friday, May 15, 3:30-6:00pm
Friday, May 15 is World Community Land Trust Day, honoring the more than 600 trusts around the world that develop permanently affordable housing and other assets on community-owned land. Join Headwaters to observe the day at a fun outing where we will plant trees, help address the climate crisis, and create the materials for future generations' Vermont homes.
Moderate walking and lifting is required for planting, but all are welcome to attend even if not able to actively plant trees. Rain or shine. Come after work! We look forward to connecting with you.
Sterling College Update
Headwaters and Sterling College continue to seek a path for Headwaters to become the next steward of the Sterling campus. Headwaters is an organization uniquely structured to meet the moment, and a purchase would be a historic opportunity to apply community land trust values to a substantial property that offers both housing opportunities and spaces for new agricultural, educational, cultural, and commercial endeavors that will serve the needs of the Northeast Kingdom today and into the future.
Both Sterling and Headwaters are working within the bounds of complex legal and fiduciary responsibilities. We are working to navigate these challenges cooperatively, and anticipate we will have more to share on the matter soon.
Headwaters extends heartfelt thanks everyone who has offered support for this potential project so far.
