A Sterling Milestone

July 20 is the deadline to submit offers to purchase the Sterling College property. The board and advisors of Headwaters Community Trust have submitted a competitive bid to become the next stewards of this vital community asset.

From the day that Sterling announced its plan to close, Ben Doyle, president of Preservation Trust of Vermont, jumped into action to support a positive community outcome. At every step he has encouraged Headwaters to “plan for the best.” In that spirit, we are moving forward.

Headwaters is preparing for a favorable outcome to the sale process. We have submitted grants to fund site assessment, community engagement, and development planning, and are maintaining open lines of communication among Headwaters, Craftsbury Saplings, and the Sterling Institute organizers.

The support Headwaters is receiving from members, neighbors, and regional and statewide organizations is a constant source of encouragement. Headwaters’ board knows the community is ready to imagine and plan for a dynamic and thriving future for the campus that has contributed so much to our area over the years. Thank you and stay tuned!
